Frontend Developer
I build web experiences that are fast, intuitive, and built to last.
I'm Barakat Okikiola, a frontend developer specializing in Angular, React, TypeScript, and modern web technologies. I turn ideas and complex problems into responsive, accessible, and user-focused web applications.
SELECTED WORK
A few things I've developed and shipped.
Website DesignRevent Web
A responsive business website built with Angular and TypeScript, with a focus on reusable components, responsive layouts, accessibility, and a clean user experience.
Website DesignFilm-maker Portfolio Website
A cinematic portfolio website designed and built for a wedding videography studio. I translated the brand's visual identity into a responsive React experience with custom animations, intentional typography, and mobile-first layouts.
Website DesignJob Application Tracker
A job application management platform that helps job seekers organize applications, track progress, and manage important job details from one place.I built the application with a focus on type safety, form validation, server-state management, authentication, and a responsive user experience.
Tools for turning ideas into working software.
I choose tools based on the problem I'm solving, with a focus on maintainable code, thoughtful interfaces, and reliable user experiences.
Frontend
The tools I use to build interactive, responsive web applications.
Styling & UI
Creating interfaces that feel consistent, responsive, and intentional.
Data & APIs
Connecting interfaces to data and building reliable application flows.
Forms & Validation
Building forms that are structured, validated, and pleasant to use.
Testing & Quality
Making sure applications work reliably and perform well.
Tools & Workflow
The tools I use to collaborate, test, and ship software.
I care about what happens beneath the interface.
Good frontend development isn't just about making a page look good. It's about building experiences that are useful, accessible, performant, and maintainable.
Understand
Before I write code, I understand the problem.
I start by understanding the users, the goals, and the problem the product needs to solve. This helps me make better technical and design decisions from the beginning.
- ·Understand the product and its users
- ·Break complex problems into smaller pieces
- ·Define clear goals and requirements
Build
Turning ideas into thoughtful, responsive interfaces.
I translate ideas and designs into responsive web experiences using reusable components, clean code, and modern frontend technologies.
- ·Reusable and maintainable components
- ·Responsive, mobile-first interfaces
- ·Angular, React, Next.js & TypeScript
Refine
The details matter.
I pay attention to the details that make an interface feel intuitive and polished, from accessibility and responsive behavior to performance and interaction.
- ·Accessibility and semantic HTML
- ·Responsive behavior across devices
- ·Performance and user experience
Test
Confidence comes from testing.
I test features and interactions to catch problems early and make sure the application behaves as expected as it evolves.
- ·Component and integration testing
- ·Vitest & React Testing Library
- ·Continuous improvement and debugging
Ship
Good software should make it into the hands of users.
I use modern development and deployment workflows to move projects from local development to production reliably.
- ·Git & GitHub workflows
- ·CI/CD with GitHub Actions
- ·Production deployment and monitoring
From studying life sciences to building software.
I'm Barakat Okikiola, a frontend developer who enjoys turning complex problems into simple, useful digital experiences.
My journey into technology started from an unexpected place: Cell Biology & Genetics. Today, I bring that same curiosity, attention to detail, and problem-solving mindset into software development.
"I'm interested in understanding how things work — then finding a better way to build them."

A different starting point
My background is in Cell Biology & Genetics, where I learned to approach complex problems systematically, pay attention to detail, and stay curious about how things work.
From science to software
That same curiosity led me into software development. I discovered that I enjoyed turning problems into interfaces and building things people can actually use.
Frontend is where I thrive
Today, I work primarily with Angular, React, TypeScript, and modern frontend technologies to build responsive, accessible, and thoughtful web experiences.
I also teach
I teach frontend development through practical projects, helping students understand HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, and modern web development. Teaching has also strengthened my ability to break complex technical ideas into simple, understandable steps.
Open to selected freelance work
Alongside full-time opportunities, I'm open to selected freelance projects where I can help businesses and individuals build or improve useful digital experiences.
